Ducks try to solve Morrow-less Stars in Dallas

Hockey Betting Lines

11/22/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Anaheim Ducks have had their troubles with the Dallas Stars as of late. They will try to knock off the last-place club tonight in a matchup between the Pacific Division residents at American Airlines Center.

Though the Ducks are second in the Pacific Division, eight points up on the Stars, they have already lost once to Dallas this year after getting knocked out of the first round in last season's playoffs by Dallas in six games. The Stars' 5-2 win in Anaheim on November 7 was their seventh in 10 games versus the Ducks, who have lost six of their last seven in Big D.

Anaheim won't have to face Stars captain Brandon Morrow though, after he suffered a torn ACL in his right knee in Thursday's loss to Chicago. Morrow's injury will require surgery that will sideline him for the next sixth months.

Anaheim enters this game having lost two straight with Friday night's 3-2 overtime setback in St. Louis. Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 25 saves, but couldn't stop Lee Stempniak's low wrister from the left circle 2:39 into the extra session.

Chris Kunitz and Scott Niedermayer scored for the Ducks, who have also dropped five of their last six (1-3-2). Anaheim's lose last night halted a five-game road winning streak. The club is 5-2-1 overall as the visiting team this year.

The Stars have lost four of their last five after Thursday's 6-3 home setback to Chicago. The loss was also Dallas' second straight and fourth in their last five at home.

Mike Modano, Morrow and James Neal had the goals for the Stars, with Marty Turco making 24 saves in defeat. Modano also had an assist, while Brad Richards had two helpers. Morrow had five goals and 10 assists in Dallas' first 18 games before his injury.

Darryl Sydor made his debut in Dallas for the third time after being acquired from Pittsburgh last Sunday. He failed to have an immediate defensive impact, though, ending a minus-two.

Richards had a goal and an assist in this month's earlier win over Anaheim, a game that saw Mark Parrish post a hat trick two days after joining the team as a free agent. Parrish then went without a point over his next three games before notching a goal and an assist in his last two.

Turco is 18-8-3 with three ties and a 2.12 goals against average in 34 games against the Ducks, while Giguere is 12-18-2 with a 2.85 GAA and one tie in 33 games versus the Stars. Giguere was pulled in Anaheim's earlier loss to Dallas after he yielded four goals on 13 shots.

Jonas Hiller replaced him early in the second period and finished with 12 saves.

MySportsbook.com Posts Heisman Trophy Odds

With 3,919 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and a mere seven interceptions last season, combined with a powerful South Bend Heisman legacy, odds makers at MySportsbook.com have given Notre Dame senior quarterback Brady Quinn the best Heisman Trophy odds at 5-2.

Quinn isn’t the only big man on campus this season.  Oklahoma junior running back and 2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson, listed at 7-2, rushed for a combined 3,033 yards in his first two years as a college player and will give Quinn a run for his money.

This online sportsbook has also listed Troy Smith, Ohio State senior quarterback, as another strong favorite to win the 72nd Heisman Trophy.  A 7-1 bet, Smith threw for 2,282 yards last season and also led the Buckeyes to a convincing 34-20 victory over Quinn and the Fighting Irish in last season’s Fiesta Bowl.
